On March 23rd, we'll embark on our yearly cruise down to Southern California for the Super Chevy Show (SCS). Last year’s show was greatly affected by the weather, but the WCGMP-SCS experience was as good as ever. This year the event will be held at the California Speedway race track in Fontana. The show offers a car show, drag races, and a after market meet.
We meet in Gilroy on Friday morning and get ready for the trip. Everyone that has walkie-talkies brings them so we can
communicate and joke around on the trip down to to So-Cal. We stop for lunch half-way there at Red Robin. After a satisfying lunch, we get gas and drinks and get back on the road. We usually arrive in the late after noon, due to the L.A. traffic. After checking-in and relaxing for a bit, we head out to the store to buy some food and drinks. The Friday Night party goes until the early hours of the morning. We catch a few hours of sleep and head out to the show.
I'm sure some of you who have not gone in years past have at least heard stories of previous trips. This is one event you don't want to miss out on as many inside jokes and other funny stories will stem from this for the rest of the year. It is also an opportunity to get to know each other a little better. Hope to see you there!
The purpose of compiling this report is to give an idea of what has been working and not working for GM in the past year. Lowest sellers do not necessarily indicate a loss for a branch in GMs business unit. An example of this would be the Pontiac Solstice which was the lowest seller for Pontiac. The original production numbers were set for 7-10k units in 2006. Due to higher demand, Pontiac produced nearly 20k units to satisfy summer supply, bringing the percentage gain of sales up to a whopping 262%. However even with a increase to 20k units it still remains the lowest selling car in the Pontiac line-up. Some of this information may seem surprising, such as the Buick Lucerne holding the title for best selling full-size sedan for GM at $25-$30k.
Research data has been provided by Forbes magazine.

History of the Muscle Car
- by Elma Fung
What is a muscle car? Many of you may agree that muscle cars are one of a kind American made phenomenon. When muscle cars started in the late 1950s they were mass produced, mid-size, two-door, American car powered by a large V8 engine. However during the years it has evolved to different forms, from full-sized behemoths to sprightly compact cars.
Many would argue that muscle cars were considered kings of horsepower and had real characters. They were so popular that they were often advertised solely on the basis of their brake horsepower ratings, torque output, and acceleration figures. America was on the move and faster is better and car companies began to listen to their younger engineers who represents the younger buyer. Hence the birth of GTO, Chevelle, Impalas, etc. with engines that range from 302 to 454.
The muscle cars did not endure the test of time. As fast as they appeared they were to disappear quickly. Many issues contributed to these cars demise such as insurance, safety, etc. Pure horse power was gone. But many car enthusiast keep muscle cars alive by reviving and restroring such classic beauty. An example of this is our own WCGMP member Lee Andersen who inherited his 68 Camaro and is working on his "Project Revival" (check out the Muscle Car Section). The underlying passion he puts in his project revival is the fact that the car has been in his family since day one. He wants the car to restore the car's reliability.
